EVIDENCE OF WILLIAM FREDERICK KAVANAGH WIRELESS OFFICER OF THE "HONG KHENG"

Sworn

My name is William Frederick Kavanagh

and I was wireless officer of the 8.8. "Hong Kheng".

Shortly after 4.0 P.M. on the 19th July I received

orders from the Master to make a genem 1 call for

help. The Hong Kong and Manila Commercial Radios

and the S.5. "Shansi" answered almost at once,

and shortly afterwards H.M.8. "Hart". Later,

further answers were received from the Russian

ship "Nahadka", the S.S. "Shenking" and the S.8.

"Hunan".

I have never tried to take a D.F.

bearing when running between the Ninepin and

Chilang Point.

For technical reasons I would not

recommend that great reliance be placed on such

bearings in that locality.

The foregoing is a true record of the evidence I have given.

9d. W.F.Kavanagh,
